Raymond Kent Robertson, 82, of Salem, died Monday, February 26, 2018, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was born August 9, 1935, the last child of seven, to Leslie and Esther Robertson of Plano, Idaho.

He grew up in Plano working on the family farm and enjoying being the youngest child. In his youth, Kent excelled in athletics. He loved playing basketball, football, baseball and track. He played on many successful teams in High School. In 1953, he earned a scholarship to Utah State for track.

He then served in the National Guard. In 1955-56, he played for the Idaho Falls Russets, a farm team of the Detroit Tigers. He met his sweetheart, Glenda in Sugar-Salem High School. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 17, 1955. After their marriage they lived in Plano, Sugar City and Idaho Falls. After a few years they moved to California, where Kent worked plastering swimming pools and Glenda worked in a drug store. They raised their family in California until they returned to the Rexburg area in 1976, helping family recover from the Teton Dam flood.

After the flood he worked for Harold Harris Construction. Then he and his son, Rick, worked together for a couple of years running their own construction company. In 1986, he went back to work for Harold Harris Construction until retiring in 1996.

Kent enjoyed many hobbies and was a creative man. He loved to knapp and made knives for his entire family. He made many arrowheads and enjoyed looking for flint, obsidian and material to make knife handles. Later in life he spent many hours coloring and writing his life story.

Kent loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and camping with his family, but his lifelong passion was fishing. He taught most all of his family and anyone else that wanted to know how to fish. He went often with anyone that wanted to go with him. He also built many bird houses and old west buildings. He loved having a beautiful yard.

He will be remembered by many as a friendly guy always ready to share a story or joke with you. He would start a conversation with anyone and soon have a new friend.

Kent was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and served in many callings. At the time of his death he was the Ward Greeter and loved welcoming all with his unique handshake.

He is survived by his children, Rick Robertson (Kathryn) and Mardi Muller (Chuck) of Salem Idaho, Vard Robertson (Michelle) of Rexburg Idaho and Brook Robertson of Salt Lake City Utah; 15 grandchildren; and 42 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters in law Earlene Parkinson of Rexburg, Idaho, Thelda Covington of Logan, Utah and Delia Wood (Gary) of Omak, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Glenda Robertson; his daughter Brenda K. Robertson; and siblings Lynn Covington, Silda Covington, Joe Covington, Vida Lewis, Dyle (Tobe) Robertson and Seth Robertson.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 5th at the Salem LDS Chapel with Bishop Kevin Lee presiding.
