Mr. Carter was a long-time active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and Mens Quartet, and served as a deacon. He volunteered in many other capacities, including the Caldwell Baptist Disaster Relief Team, coached mens softball, Hudson Optimist Club, board member of South Caldwell Christian Ministries and other various committees over the years.
Mr. Carter attended Granite Falls High, served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962, and later attended Western Piedmont Community College. He retired in 1995 from General Electric where he worked in Human Resources. He was an avid fisherman, yet his favorite past-time was being with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Medlin and his brother, Michael Carter.
Other than his wife, he is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Wayne Carter; Jaret Lee Carter and wife, Lynne Clough Carter; sisters, Janice Carter of Lenoir and Juanita Carpenter and husband, Robert; brother, Albert Deward Carter; grandchildren, Dailie Carter Blanton and husband, Trey of Greenville, SC; Harrison Carter of Raleigh; Aubrey Lynne Carter and Rylee Diane Carter of Lenoir; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service for Mr. Carter will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 3:00 PM.Ro
