Gregory (Greg) F Griffin, a gentleman of many interests and close friends, passed away on February 7, 2018 at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, in the presence of his Heavenly Father, family and friends. Days earlier he had received the Anointing of the Sick sacrament of the Catholic Church at the hospital. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he spent the last 39 years in Orange County, including Sunset Beach since November of 1989. A project engineer for Boeing Aerospace until he retired in 2009. Gregg earned a B.S. in mechanical Engineering at Catholic University of America (1962) in Washington, D.C. Devoted in life to his wife Elizabeth Derry since their marriage in 2013, he is also survived by his former wife of 25 years, Jennie Kellogg, and loving daughters: Susan LaCilento, Jane Kellogg, Sheri Kellogg and Karla Hyham, as well as grandchildren AJ and Brittany LaCilento; Amanda, Samantha and Seth Adkins, Tori, Kali and Marina Hyham. He was also loved and will be dearly missed by sisters Elizabeth (Betsy) Casarino, Kathleen (Kate) DeBatista, and son-in-law Arthur LaCilento. Greg was a generous and dedicated member of the Surf City Chapter of Rotary International in Huntington Beach. Its membership will grieve their loss of his fellowship in their many community activities, An active outdoorsman, Greg loved birding, operating high-performance cars, long bicycle rides, kayaking and nature hikes. He was also an avid reader who would solve challenging crossword puzzles on nearly a daily basis. Active in retirement as he was throughout his life, Greg was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Seal Beach, a five-time president of the Sunset Beach Community Association, and served on the board of The Bolsa Chica Conservancy. In addition, he was a Sunset Beach Sanitary District Commissioner and former trustee of Catholic University of America and the WEst Coast director of its Alumni Association. On February 16 a funeral mass was held at St. Anne's, it was followed by a celebration of Greg's life and contributions to the well-being of others, at the Sunset Beach Community Center. His final resting place is Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Huntington Beach. Sun Newspapers
