Roy H. Wood of Youngsville, NY, a retired 35 year employee of the Yaun Co. in Liberty, NY, died on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Catskill Regional Medical Center Harris, NY he was 89. The son of the late Walter and Wilhelmina Huschke Wood he was born January 9, 1929 in Youngsville, NY.
Roy was a 64 year member and past Chief of the Youngsville Fire Department, a fire commissioner of the Youngsville Fire District, a member of the Trails End Hunting Club and a U.S. Army Veteran.
A family statement reads: Roy was a jack of all trades. He was always there when his family needed help with their plumbing and heating projects. He was a very community minded man.
Roy is survived by his sister, Elsie Parks of Youngsville, NY; his brother, Walter Wood and his wife, Nora of St. Augustine, FL; his special cousin, Robert Vakiener and his wife, Carol of Youngsville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn Hatton and her husband, William and by his brother-in-law, Leslie Parks, and by his faithful canine companion, Tippy.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home Jeffersonville, NY and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The Youngsville Fire Department will hold firematic services at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday January 16, 2018 at the funeral home, Pastor Bridgette LeConey will officiate. Interment will follow in the Youngsville Presbyterian Cemetery Youngsville, NY.
