His remains have been recovered and he is now interred in the Jefferson Barrack's National Cemetery, Lemay, Missouri.

Charles served as a Sergeant & Gunner on B-25C #42-32291, 70th Bomber Squadron, 42nd Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in the District Of Columbia prior to the war.

B-25C #42-32291, while on a Bomb-Strafe mission over Tobera Airfield, East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea was hit by ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed near Tobera. A witness noted that they thought the pilot himself had been hit causing the crash.

Charles was first declared "Missing In Action" and once his remains were recovered after the war his status was changed to "Killed In Action".

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
