Edgbert "Ed" Hatton, longtime Austin resident, died peacefully on Christmas Eve, 2006. He was cared for by many loving friends and family.

Ed was born September 20, 1920 in Warren, Texas to Lonnie and Tinnie Hughes Hatton. He was one of eight children.

He was preceded in death by his sons Robert Evan Hatton, and Mark Alan Hatton. Survivors include his wife, Helen Brigham Hatton, daughter Janet Hatton Tanner and husband Leslie F. Tanner of Katy; daughter Gail Hatton Stoke and husband Stanley L. Stoke of Dallas; daughter-in-law Jayne Henry Hatton of San Antonio; son Gregory Kent Hatton of Austin, son William Bradley Hatton and wife Cynthia Cumbus Hatton, of Austin; and grandchildren Matthew Alan Tanner; Christopher Clayton Stoke; Laura Stoke Wallace; Ashley Blake Hatton; Lindsey Brooke Hatton; and Ryan Teal Hatton.

Ed served the Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946 in the Corp of Engineers.
He and Helen Brigham were married December 10, 1948 in Houston, Texas. Ed earned a degree from the University of Houston in mechanical engineering in 1950 and began his 23 year career with Gulf Oil Company settling in Austin where they raised their family. He then worked for the Texas State Water Commission for 15 years. He was involved with The Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts. Ed was an active member of the Presbyterian Church; enjoying fully all churches that he and Helen were members of. Most currently, he was member of the First Presbyterian Church in Austin where he served as a deacon, and elder, and was involved in a multitude of projects for the Church.

Ed was a man devoted to loving his family and serving God. His accomplishments were many, but he will be remembered for his support of those in need and his kind and gentle spirit.

The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at St. David's North Austin Medical Center Hospital for the very wonderful, loving care provided to Ed.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas 78731 on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the First Presbyterian Church memorial fund.
