Stephen Blaine Cook, of Philomath, died on February 12, 2018 in his home at the age of 63. He was born on June 15, 1954 in Murphy, North Carolina to Blaine and Betty (Swaim) Cook.

In 1972 Stephen graduated from Oakridge High School and then attended Oregon State University. He married Nancy (Basl) Cook in Stayton, on September 18, 1976. Throughout his life Stephen held a few different careers. In the 70’s he did survey work in Alaska, he was a lumber mill worker in the early 80s, from the mid 80s to 90s he was an insurance agent and from then on he was a financial consultant.

Stephen was a member of both the Junction City Moose Lodge and the Corvallis Elks Lodge. His hobbies included cooking for loved ones, being a die-hard OSU Beaver fan, camping and outdoors, and playing Santa at Christmastime. Stephen enjoyed morning coffee with "the guys", having strong opinions, and arguing about the state of things.

He is survived by his parents, wife, sisters Kathy Swigert of Newberg and Sharon Krise of New Bern, North Carolina, brother Joe Cook of Coos Bay, son Anthony Cook of Philomath/New York, daughter Amy (Ken) Decker of Corvallis, and grandson Nathan.

"I had the opportunity to work with Steve for many years. I always enjoyed our visits his sense of humor and stories of small children following him through the store around Christmas time. I know he did a lot of good for many people in many different areas. We will miss him. He will be in our memories a long time."
- Ward Jones

" We were so sorry to hear of your loss. Steve was a great guy and we will always remember his laugh and love of a good time. We hope you find great comfort in your memories of him and being together with each other. God Bless"- John and Jane Eberhardt

"I always enjoyed having Steve come to our cross country and track meets to cheer on his son Anthony., who was a state champion for Philomath High. Steve was always positive and supportive of all the runners, and pretty well-informed about our sports as well. Our community has lost a world class guy." - Joe Fulton

"I was saddened to hear about Steve. Steve was instrumental in my career. I enjoyed sharing an office with him and considered him a friend. The last time I spoke with him he was giving me BBQ tips and telling me that Paul and I needed to come down for a BBQ. We were trying to plan. He was such a good and honest person. I will miss, as I know you will. " - Suzi Williams

"Condolences for the loss of a good man. I went all through school in Oakridge with Steve and enjoyed working with him on class reunions and seeing him at Nutcakes. He will be missed." - Gayle Woosley

"He was a good, honest man who I respected for his consult. RIP, Steve." - Ted Running

"What everybody said about Steve is true...he was honest, loyal, and fun to be around. Politically, he and I disagreed on just about everything, and our wives had to get in between us and stop the conversation every time we started arguing. Still, I enjoyed being with him and I am going to miss him terribly. He was always the life of the party and he was always the colorful person we wanted to be with. Last time we saw Cookie he gave us a bottle of his homemade "Apple Pie", and I'll think of him until the last drop. Steve loved his family and his friends. I know he wanted to leave us with one more "Bite Me", and his huge laugh. I'll see you again some day, my friend, and I know you'll have a cold one waiting for me." - Bob Shepherd

"I was so sorry to hear about Steve’s passing. Steve and I were colleagues for many, many years, and it just won’t be the same at regional meetings without him. We could always count on Steve to make us laugh, and share good professional experiences. My condolences to Steve’s family and close personal friends—I’m so sorry for your loss. " - Patti Oleson

"My condolences. A true friend and wonderful family man. I will miss him immensely. RIP. Love you Steve. Alaska Dan" - Daniel Kingsley

"In the several years I worked with Steve he was more than a favorite co-worker; he became a very dear friend, He had a terrific sense of humor and a deep sense of compassion. He didn't "play" at being Santa at Christmas time, he "was" Santa. I loved that about him. And he really enjoyed bragging about his family, Nanc, Anthony, Amy, Nathan, and of course, his good friend, KimZ. He truly enriched my life and I will miss him greatly." - Linda Jorgensen
