Betty Beavers Johnson, age 93, of Homewood died peacefully at home on February 26, 2018.

She was a long-time and active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood, Alabama, where she shared her beautiful voice with the Sanctuary and Senior choirs.

Betty, known as Sis to many of her friends and family, attended Barker Elementary School and Phillips High School in Birmingham.

She and her husband James, whom she adored, were avid travelers, visiting six of the seven continents. She volunteered at the Firehouse Shelter, with Family Promise (formerly the Birmingham Hospitality Network) and Meals-on-Wheels. Betty was a gentle and loving lady, like her mother before her. She exuded gracious southern hospitality and opened her lovely home to many. She enjoyed serving others and was known for her famous floating-island custard that for many years she delivered to numerous ailing relatives and friends that, without question, aided in their recoveries. She loved sewing club and couples bridge club for more than 50 years. Betty enjoyed time of prayer and peaceful reflection, especially during the early hours at her cherished lake house on Lake Mitchell. She loved and was loved deeply.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James T. Johnson, Jr., her father, Frank Austin Beavers, her mother, Flora Jones Beavers, and her brothers Frank Austin (Sunny) Beavers, Jr. and Charles A. J. Beavers (Gillian), a daughter, Flora Pamela Johnson, her son-in-law, David Mollison Fitzgerald, and by her cousin and best friend, Elizabeth Ann Baum Suther.

She is survived by, her son, James T. Johnson, III (Serene), her daughter, Diane Johnson Fitzgerald, and her son, C. Austin Johnson (Lynn), all of Birmingham; her grandchildren, James T. Johnson, IV, of Birmingham, Michael Mollison Fitzgerald of Denver, Colorado, William Dobbins Sulzby, III (Spur), of Birmingham, Kelly Ann Johnson (Craig) of Ithaca N.Y., Christopher Mollison Fitzgerald, Emily Johnson Baker (Allen), Amy McGill Fitzgerald, and Charles Austin Johnson, Jr., all of Birmingham; and her great grandsons, James T. (Ty) Johnson, V, John Henry Baker, Marshall Baker, Graham Baker, and Lee Baker, all of Birmingham.

Betty requested that there be a graveside service on Saturday, February March 3rd at Oak Hill Cemetery at 10:00 a.m with the family receiving friends at Trinity United Methodist Church, from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m.
