Survived by his sister, Mary Burris, Moorland, IA; brothers, Rick Bretthauer, North Liberty, IA; Chuck Bretthauer, Fort Dodge, IA; and Terry (Kay) Bretthauer, Urbandale, IA.
Graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1966 and Iowa Cenetral in 1968. He attended the University of Northern Iowa, prior to his entry in the United States Air Force, for which he served from 1971 to 1975, including a tour of Vietnam. Following his discharge, Mick returned to Fort Dodge and was employed by the United States Postal Service for 40 years before his retirement in 2011.
