Funeral services for Jonathan N. Goodman II (Jay), 16, of 1173 Tyler Road, Denmark, will be held at 3:33 p.m. in the Voorhees College gym, Denmark. The burial will follow in Bamberg County Memory Gardens, with the repast in the City of Refuge Ministries fellowship hall, Denmark.

He died Saturday, Aug. 15, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Viewing will be held Friday, Aug. 21, in the Bamberg Carroll Mortuary chapel between the hours of noon and 8 p.m. Born Oct. 27, 1998, to Dr. Jonathan M. Goodman II and Selena Gibson in Sumter, Jay, as he was known to family and friends, was a student at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School and was a lover of basketball. He was a member of the Bamberg-Ehrhardt basketball team and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In addition to being an honor student, he was also selected to participate in the Project Lead The Way Program at the Cope Career Center, Robotics and E Smart Clubs. He was a member of CC Force AAU basketball team in Columbia. Jay was also a member of the City of Refuge Ministries, Denmark. He lived by his motto, "Earned, Not Given."

Surviving are a loving father, Dr. Jonathan M. Goodman II of Denmark and mother Selena D. Gipson (Kirk) of Aiken; a brother, Joshua M Goodman of Denmark; a sister, Courtney Tucker of Charlotte, North Carolina; a grandmother, Loretta P. Goodman of Denmark; three aunts and four uncles; and a niece and nephew. Jay will truly be missed by his basketball teammates.

Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg will be in charge of the services.
