LT. COLONEL WAYNE ALLEN POOLE
Oct. 1, 1922 – Feb. 24, 2018

Lt. Col. Ret. Wayne Allen Poole, 95, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, peacefully in his Fairfield home, surrounded by his children. Wayne was born Oct. 1, 1922 to Hugh and Alta Poole of Clearfield, Pennsylvania. On April 21, 1956 he married his wife of 60 years, Eva K. Poole.

Wayne served his country as an enlisted member of the cavalry in 1940. He was sent to Aviation Training in 1942 and entered the newly formed Army Air Corps. During World War ll he flew 130 missions over the China Burma India Hump and was awarded the distinguished flying cross among many other medals and awards during his long and loyal military service to our country. He retired from his Air Force career out of Travis AFB and continued to raise his large family and lived out his life in Fairfield.

Wayne enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, pheasant, and duck hunting. He especially loved time with his faithful Labrador Retrievers, be it out in the field working or on the couch taking a nap. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by Pat McGrorty of Alaska, Vivian Poole of Novato, Michael Poole and wife, Michelle of Alaska, Deborah Brick and husband, Joel of Oregon, Mark Poole and wife, Janice of Vacaville; he has many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Eva; daughter, Kathryn; parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

Wayne will be buried with full military honors at 2 p.m., on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road Dixon, California.
