Rita Allen, 87, passed away on February 25, 2018 at the Atrium in Agawam.

Born on March 9, 1930 in Bushfield, Hollymount County Mayo, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Ellen (Concannon) Gibbons. Besides being a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Agawam, Rita was also a member of the St. John’s Catholic Women’s Club for over 25 years and St. John’s Over Sixty Club for over 20 years. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed bowling, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Predeceased by her husband of 19 years, Philip L. Allen who passed away in 1991 and her siblings John Gibbons, Thomas Gibbons and Mary Gigone, she leaves her children David P. Allen and his wife Sheila of Danville, NH, Douglas J. Allen and his wife Janet of Longmeadow, Robert S. Allen of Agawam and Arlene F. Lane and her husband James of Feeding Hills; grandchildren Isabel Allen, Cameron Allen, Bryan Lane and his wife Katie, Greggory Lane, Eric Lane and his fiancée Lauren, Haley Burke, Kelsey Burke and Tanner Allen as well as her brothers Joseph Gibbons of Ireland and James Gibbons of NY.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 10 AM at the funeral home followed by burial in Springfield Street Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross of Western MA 150 Brookdale Drive, Springfield, MA 01104 or to St. John the Evangelist Church.
