Karen Rae Schmidt, 78, of Lincoln, passed away February 24, 2018. Born December 13, 1939 in Lincoln to Lowell and Ruth (Pape) Pierson.
Homemaker, retired business owner, Ace Plumbing, Heating and Air. Graduated from Bennet High School. Member of South Gate United Methodist Church. Karen enjoyed spending time with family, quilting, reading.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Melvin Schmidt; children Cathy (Rex) Newsham and Mike (Cindy) Schmidt, both of Lincoln; grandchildren Jessica (John) Russell of Chicago and Ryan Newsham of Indianapolis; sisters Marilyn Baily and Kathleen (Richard) Akerlund, brother Elton (Mona) Pierson, sister-in-law Sheryl (Rick) Matthes, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Roger Pierson.
The celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, at South Gate United Methodist Church, 3500 Pioneers Blvd., Lincoln. No visitation, cremation. Family will greet friends one hour before the service. Inurnment at a later date, Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to South Gate United Methodist Church.
