Debra Ann Butler , 50, of 269 Baruch St., Denmark, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Franklin United Methodist Church, Denmark. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Bamberg Memory Gardens.

Born March 15, 1965, in Denmark to Rufus and Eartha Lee Washington, Debra was a graduate of Denmark-Olar High School, finishing third in her class. She went on to attend Claflin University. At an early age she joined Franklin United Methodist Church. In 1986, Debra enlisted in the U.S. Navy, she served her nation for over 20 years before retiring with honors. While in the Navy she received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy "E" Ribbon, Good Navy Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal and the Enlisted Surface Warfare Breast Insignia.

Survivors include her parents of the home; husband, Samuel Butler Sr. of Hampton, Virginia; five children, Erica Washington of Denmark, Kimberly McCall of Bamberg, Linwood Bogues III of Atlanta, Samuel Butler Jr. of Hampton, Virginia, and Jasmine Butler of Augusta, Georgia; two sisters, Connie (Anthony) Donaldson and Shiryl Washington, all of Denmark; a brother, Rufus Earl Washington of Denmark; and eight grandchildren.

The Denmark Chapel of Carroll Mortuary will be in charge of the services. Friends may call at the home.
