Kathryn Harrison, a longtime resident of Lubbock, most recently of Tyler, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 6, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Albert Blasienz, and her mother, Mayme Robertson Blasienz. Born in Milam County in the Clarkson Community, she graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron at age 16.

Kathryn's professional career included 39 years of government service. After retirement, she opened the Free Spirit Studio, offered tax preparation services to the public and traveled extensively in the United States and Europe. She collected friends wherever she went and will be remembered for her annual New Year's Eve party. She was admired for her ability to complete crossword puzzles in ink until she was well into her 90s.

She also made Ruidoso her "home away from home" for many years and loved entertaining her family and friends there.

She leaves three children, Linda Babb, Dorothy Combs and Jerry Harrison. In addition, she had six grandchildren, Grant Babb, Suzanne Babb, Neal Combs, James Combs, John Combs and Bo Harrison; and nine great-grandchildren, Olive Babb, Josey Meinrod, Rory and Quillan Combs, Henry, Sam and Ben Combs, Maddy and Coco Combs.

During these most recent months, LaQuita Hampton, of The Hospice of East Texas, became a part of Kathryn's family and provided us with the skills and resources to make Kathryn more comfortable, for which we will always be grateful. Contributions in Kathryn's memory may be made to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas, 75701.

Kathryn's life will be celebrated at a memorial service at Little River Cemetery in Milam County in May. The date will be provided after arrangements are complete.
