Retired President of Forrest Abbott Company and FACO Corporation of Greenville, SC, Mr. Abbott was a longtime business and civic leader in Greenville. As a student at Wofford, Mr. Abbott was a member of Army ROTC, Scabbard and Blade and the Phi Kappa Phi Fraternity.
He served as First Lieutenant in the US Army 1943-46 and retired from the US Army Reserves with the rank of Major General.
Forrest received degrees from Harvard Graduate School of Business, US Army War College, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National War College and The Command and General Staff College.
Mr. Abbott's business and community affiliations were numerous and included the following; Greenville Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International, National Food Brokers Association, trustee US Army War College, member Army Reserve Components Policy Committee, National Association of Manufacturers, Reserve Officers Association and the Association of the US Army.
Mr. Abbott was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Greenville where he served as deacon and on various committees.
In addition to his wife of 69 years, Maryann Cochran Abbott, survivors include sisters, Evelyn Abbott Irzyk and husband Albin Felix of West Palm Beach, Florida and Betty Abbott Quarles and husband William Gordon Quarles of Gastonia, NC, also a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Mackey Mortuary on Monday, August 5 from 3 to 5 pm following a private graveside service.
