William M. McIlvain, 93, decorated army veteran and Wann resident, died Friday in Wann, OK. Bill was born the son of Windsor Castle and Clara Bell (DeShazer) McIlvain on June 28, 1924, in Sperry, OK.

He was raised on an oil lease in Burbank, OK, owned by the Texas Oil Company. Bill graduated high school in 1942 and at his father’s request waited one year before enlisting in the US Army, serving from 1943-1957 in both World War II and Korea. Bill was united in marriage with Patricia Joan Sullivan in 1945. During his military service he received numerous awards including the Combat Infantry Badge, a Silver Star, two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Bill received technical training in computers and worked as a systems analyst for many years. He earned his Bachelors of Arts at the age of 68 from the College of Mount St. Vincent in Bronx, NY. In 1997 Bill and Patricia moved to Kentucky to be close to their granddaughter and in 1998 moved back to Oklahoma.

Bill enjoyed reading, poetry, Broadway and taking on projects around the house - most notably, the doll and dog houses he crafted. He loved his great and great great grandchildren and was active in their many activities over the years. Bill took his grandchildren on many memorable trips back east which they remember fondly. He will be dearly missed.

Bill is survived by his granddaughter Kellie McIlvain Talbott and Husband Greg; two grandsons, Shannon Brady, and David Chissoe; three great grandchildren, William Louis Nelson, Jessica Anne Johnson and Lauren Renee Ward; and 10 great great grandchildren, Brayden, Jaydence, Gage, Zaharah, Zaydyan, Caden, Aiden, Chloe, Elijah and Erin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sons William David McIlvain and Windsor Castle McIlvain.

Funeral services will be held 10 am Friday, March 2, 2018, at the Davis Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery at 2 pm.
