East Millinocket and Skowhegan – Norman F. Cook, 93, was born December 17, 1924 in Skowhegan to Leona (Allen) and Victor E. Cook. On Saturday, February 24, 2018, he passed from this life on earth to life eternal with his Lord and Savior.
Norma spent his childhood in Athens, Maine. In 1942, Norman met the love of his life, Cordelia York in Portland. They were married in 1945 in East Millinocket. Norman is a World War II veteran, having served the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from 1942-45. After his Navy service, he returned to Maine and established his home in East Millinocket where he and his beloved wife enjoyed raising their family. Norman began his employment as a Machinist and was employed at Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket and Millinocket for 39 years. After retiring from GNP as Maintenance Superintendent, Norman and Cordelia moved to Skowhegan, where he lived until the time of his passing.
Norman’s greatest pleasure was spending time with his beloved wife, Cordelia, and his family. Norman loved to fish and hunt in his younger days. Many happy times were spent relaxing at their camps on South Twin Lake and Pleasant Pond in Caratunk. Norman received great pleasure and comfort from quietly living his strong faith. He was an active member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God church in East Millinocket for many years, where he served as a deacon. After moving to Skowhegan, he became an active member of Calvary Pentecostal Church in Madison. He found great pleasure in doing small things to make life more enjoyable for others, especially family and friends. He spent many hours doing volunteer carpentry work for friends, family, and his church, and built several homes.
Norman is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Cordelia; two daughters, Norma Cook of Augusta, and Rae Batchelder and her husband Paul of Anderson, Indiana; a son, Ernest Cook and his wife Cheryl of Madison, New Hampshire; two grandsons, Shawn Cook and his wife Kerstin, and Kevin Batchelder and his wife Heather; granddaughters, Bethany Hoffman and her husband Matthew, Michelle Kane, and Heather Flader and husband Matthew; 13 great grandchildren, Madyson, Logan, Laurell, Autumn, Tanner, Abigail, Zane, Gavin, Nathan, Connor, Shelby, Hannah, and Caleb; three beloved sisters, Margaret LaFlemme, Eleanor Hart, and Ruth McDougall; two sisters in law, Wilda of Florida, Priscialla of Medway; a brother in law, Marshall and his wife Carolyn of Medway; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Norman was predeceased by a son, John Daniel Cook, a sister, Virginia, brothers Richard and Paul, and his parent in law, Hattie and Rodney York.
