George Boyd Ervin Sr., age 80, of Bolivar, departed this life early Saturday morning at Tennova Medical Center in Jackson.

Boyd, as he was known to many, started working on his family farm at a very early age. He turned farming and all aspects of it into his lifelong work and continued it right up until his death. He served in the National Guard for several years and was one of the pioneers in agriculture that first began to grow soybeans in this area in attempt to offset losses in the cotton market. After that he created a feed that is known and loved by many people to this day, the Alfa-Oats.

He was born July 17, 1937 to Everett and Marie Ervin and is survived by his 6 children. Susan (Mike) Skibba of Hickory Valley, Cindy (Thomas) Greene of Bolivar, Becky (Richard) Ervin of Bolivar, Ryan (Rhonda) Boyd of Bolivar, George (Angela) Ervin Jr. of Bolivar, and Chris (Laurissa) Ervin of Bolivar. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, one nephew, Wade Stinson of Olive Branch, and one niece Christie Sneed of Bolivar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Marie Ervin, two brothers, Floyd Ervin of Bolivar and Larry Ervin of Brownsville, one sister, Maggie Stinson also of Bolivar. Two daughters Gina Marie Ervin and Pamela Lynn Ervin of Bolivar, one granddaughter Trista Greene of Bolivar, and two great grandchildren Karley Grace Howell and Colton McClure also from Bolivar.

Of all of his accomplishments in life, none compare to his love for the Lord. He believed that this was not the end of his story. He was one that brought a light so great to our world that even after he left, his light remains.
