Russell Carl Waldhuetter, age 81 of Hubertus, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Kathy Hospice, in West Bend, in the arms of his family and the Lord.

Russell was born October 30, 1936 in Milwaukee to Raymond J. and Loretta “Dolly” (nee Urban) Waldhuetter. He was united in marriage to Joanne Elizabeth Louise Gesell on November 10, 1956 in Milwaukee and served in the United States Navy on the USS Amphion in Norfolk, VA. As newlyweds they enjoyed every moment possible on the eastern seaboard together and with friends. Russell worked in offset printing as a service manager, then for the Washington County Highway Department for nearly 30 years before his retirement. He enjoyed his family, the north woods and lakes, gardening, home cooking, tractors, snowmobiling, music, racing, hunting and fishing, reading, and anytime someone could offer a good story or a cold beer. Russell was Blessed to build a new home in 1966 in Hubertus, WI with Joanne and raise his kids and live there for 51 years. He faithfully provided for his Family working multiple jobs and running a side business commercially mowing for various townships in the area.

Russell spent his summers growing up in Eagle River since 1939 when his parents bought and expanded a family resort called Russwald Cabins on Pickeral Lake in Vilas County. He learned to fish with his friend Lee Holdmann, swim, shoot and enjoy the outdoors, and as a teenager build and race a stock-car in the footsteps of his dad who loved auto racing. Russell and Joanne raised their kids and grandkids with a love of the north woods and left behind a family cabin as their north woods legacy.

Russell is survived by his loving children, Denise Puffer of Slinger, Cheryl (Scott)Waldhuetter of Hubertus, and Kurt Raymond (Lucy) Waldhuetter of Colgate; cherished grandchildren, Melynda (Ryan) Ehlers, Heather Puffer, Nicole and Luke Waldhuetter; cherished great-grandson, Evan Ehlers; sister-in-law, Marlene (Paul) Brogli; and dear friend, Willie Kaufman. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Russell is at the Lord’s side in union with his parents; parents-in-law, Emil and Albena (nee Frank) Gesell; brothers-in-law, Bob and Bill Gesell; and his beloved wife of 55 years, Joanne Waldhuetter; among other family members.

Russell’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 4:45p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home (824 Union Street Hartford, WI 53027) with Pastor Joseph Brath officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2:30-4:30p.m.
