Irma B. Acker, 98, passed away on February 11, 2018 in Portland, Maine.

Irma was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1919, daughter of Ruth Rand and Otto George Beyer.

She lived in West Hartford for most of her life, graduating from William Hall High School in 1937. Irma was active in the First Church of Christ Congregational in West Hartford and was a longtime employee at the Connecticut Mutual Insurance Company in Hartford. Upon her retirement she was the executive secretary to the president. She loved spending time with her family and neighbors, enjoyed family gatherings in the summer in Niantic, Connecticut, and loved playing the piano.

She was predeceased by her husband Clifford C. Acker of West Hartford and her son Wayne S. Acker of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

She is survived by her son Barry R. Acker of Penobscot, Maine, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Irma will be missed by all her family and friends, and especially by the many friends of her two sons who made the Acker house a center of activity during their high school years in West Hartford. The family extends many thanks to the staff at The Barron Center in Portland, Maine for the exceptional care they provided to Irma.

A graveside memorial service will take place at the Fairview Cemetary in August. Memorial donations can be made to Hospital for Special Care, Corbin Avenue. New Britain, Connecticut.
