Actress. Born Emma Gwynedd Mary Chambers, daughter of Noelle Strange and John Chambers in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. She attended Winchester College and trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her stage debut in 'Henceforward' at the Scarborough Theatre (1987) and, her West End debut at the Vaudeville Theatre (1988). She made her television debut that same year in a BBC adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's 'The Rainbow.' She then appeared in several television series such as 'The Bill' and 'The Mixer' in guest roles, and in the mini-series 'Martin Chuzzelwit' as Charity Pecksniff in 1994; the same year she earned her break out role as Alice Tinker in the comedy series, 'The Vicar of Dibley.' The program ran from 1994 to 1998. She won the 1998 British Comedy Award for best actress for her performance and reprised the role in numerous 'Vicar of Dibley' specials between 1999 and 2007. In 1999, she gained notice as Honey Thacker in the feature film, 'Notting Hill.' She then co-starred in the television series 'How Do You Want Me?' (1998- 1999) and 'Take a Girl Like You' (2000). Her last performance on stage was in 'Benefactors' at the Albery Theatre in 2002, and she loaned her voice to the animated series 'Little Robots' in 2003. Long suffering from acute allergies and asthma, her career tapered off as she began to withdraw from public life. Her last film appearance was in 2007 in a 'Vicar of Dibley Comic Relief Special.' She succumbed to heart failure at age 53.
