Ivy Williamson Arbanasin Bitters Erwine
Ivy Bitters Erwine, a long-time Ripon area resident passed away at the age of 97 on Wednesday, the 7th of February at Bethany Home in Ripon.
Ivy was born in 1921 in Stockton, California to Albert and Inez (Humphrey) Williamson. She had six siblings, all of which preceded her in death. Madeline (Tomey) Bomsburger, Arthur (Doris) Williamson, Lillian (Charles) Carpino, Albert (Hazel) Williamson, Robert(Edie) Williamson, and Bernice (John) Traverso. Ivy graduated Linden High School in 1940 and married Antone Arbanasin. They had two children, Ronnie William (deceased) and Linda Lorraine. She married Fred W. Bitters (deceased) in 1955 and had three more children, Debra Rene, Dennis Eugene, and Patricia Diane (died at seven months). In 1973 she married Richard Erwine (deceased).
A huge part of Ivy's early life revolved around her love for horses. She was a member of the San Joaquin Valley Possettes and traveled around California and Nevada entering several parades and competitions. She also enjoyed trail rides and just about any reason to be on a horse. Ivy loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. She was extremely patriotic, loved her country, Ripon, and the Fire Department. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and a charter member of Military Order of the Cooties (hospital par of VFW). As we are remembering her, we are all saying, "She did it her way!"
Ivy was a rural mail carrier for 18 years, retiring in 1984. She loved her mail route and the people on it. She truly missed working, however, her and Richard did quite a lot of traveling in their RV. She also was able to travel with her sisters before their deaths to Hawaii, Virgin Islands, Santa Catalina and other places in the states. Ivy was the driver and luggage handler on their jaunts by auto. She always looked forward to these trips and visiting her sisters in Stockton.
Ivy is survived by three of her five children, Linda (John) Morris, Debra (Kennard) Schroeder, and Dennis (Carla) Bitters. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.Duplicate #187558525 under review
