CHURCH HILL — G. Frederick (Fred) Montgomery Jr., age 78, of Church Hill went peacefully to be with his Lord on January 22, 2018.
Fred was born in Church Hill and lived his entire life there. He was the oldest child of Graham and Ruby Quillin Montgomery. They preceded him in death as did his two brothers, David and Roger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Stiles Montgomery, two sons Mark and Blake and their wives, Claudia and Melissa. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Morgan, Logan, Jordan and Hannah and two step-grandchildren Justin and Taylor, and great-grandson Mason.
Their faith was the foundation of their marriage. They were baptized together in 1960 into the Faith Primitive Baptist Church. Fred was the church clerk for 25 years.
Fred loved the people of Hawkins County and served as City Alderman and Vice mayor for several years and as a County Commissioner for many years. He also served on the Hawkins Co. Natural Gas Board for 25 years. He retired from Eastman after 41 years as a machinist/inspector.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to be made to your favorite charity.\
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home in Church Hill. Visitation will be followed by a remembrance of his life, after which family and friends will proceed to Liberty Hill Cemetery on US 11W for the burial service led by Elder Leonard Davis.
