James H. “Jim” Lawler, of Green Bay, WI was 83 years of age when he died Wednesday, February 21, 2018. In addition to his wife, Joann, Jim was preceded in death by granddaughter, Laura Goering; his parents, Herbert and Eremenia (Roeser) Lawler; his parents-in-law, Ralph and Viola (Baenen) DeGroot; sister-in-law, Barbara Seroogy; brother-in-law, George Richter; and a nephew, Lance Skaleski.

Jim was a 1952 graduate of Central Catholic High School; he continued his education at St. Norbert College, graduating in 1956 with a Business Degree. From 1956 - 1958, he served in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. September 8, 1956, Jim married Joann DeGroot at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral; they celebrated 60 years before Joann passed on June 3, 2017.

Jim lived a life of service. He worked hard, dedicating his career to Metropolitan Life where he served as Sales Manager and a business mentor to many while achieving top sales office in the region. After 35 years with Metropolitan Life he retired in 1994. In addition, he was proud to manage program sales for the Green Bay Packers for 18 years. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish for over 50 years, where he attended daily mass. Jim served as an usher and Eucharistic minister and was an active member of the Men’s Club. He volunteered his time and talent freely, and for many years, with the Monday Noon Optimist Club, Meals on Wheels and St. Vincent DePaul.

Jim loved his family. He was our family’s “Rock”; steady, strong, and always there for us. After his retirement, Jim and Joann spent many happy summers at the cottage, the center of countless gatherings with family and friends. They traveled to many places and loved spending the winters in St. Augustine, FL. Jim was very connected to the community and had many life-long friends. Jim treasured time with his family. He was his children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s #1 fan at countless school, sporting events and dance recitals. He also loved watching the Packers, playing cards and dart-ball.
