He was born Aug. 25, 1942, in Monmouth, the son of Chester and Freda Jessen Garner. He married Patricia (Tim) Lefort in 1963.
Surviving are a son, Larry (Kara) Garner of Monmouth; a daughter, Jenny (Matt) Hinton of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Dustin Garner of Monmouth, Ashley (Adam) Gaskill of Alexis, Kayley Garner of Monmouth, Madison (Levi) Sherman of Galesburg and Mitchell Hinton of Knoxville; four great-grandchildren, Alec Gaskill, Adrian Gaskill, Adley Gaskill and Isabel Garner; and a sister, Joyce (Van) Buster of Monmouth. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kathy Jo Garner; four brothers; and three sisters.
He worked at the former Wilson Foods meat packing plant in Monmouth. He enjoyed fishing, and drinking coffee with his buddies. He also enjoyed going on tractor poker runs.
Cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no service. Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
