Robert Dean Featherston died Feb. 9, 2018, at the W.G. Hefner VA Hospice House of Salisbury. He was born in Cramerton on Feb. 19, 1937, to Robert and Lois Featherstone. Mr. Featherston graduated from Duke University in 1959. He then attended Army Language School in Monterrey, Calif. He was a Russian linguist stationed in Lubeck, Germany for two years. In 1964, Dean married Patricia Sellers, and they were the parents of Andrew and Michael Featherston. Dean retired from National Starch and Chemical Company (formerly Proctor Chemical) in 2000. Dean and Pat traveled extensively during his retirement. Dean was active in bridge tournaments and was a long time Life Master. He was past president of the Mid-Carolina Bridge Association, a former board member of the Salisbury-Rowan Symphony, and a member of Civitan. His hobby was gardening, and he enjoyed walking his "grand dogs." Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Andrew; and his sister, Anne Matheny. He is survived by his wife, Pat; his son, Michael; his brother, Bill of Hickory; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
