Barbara Jean Barrus Burgess
Barbara Jean Burgess, 71, of Rigby, passed away in her home on February 22, 2018.

Born on April 15, 1946, to Matthew Clark Barrus and Barbara Jean Larson Barrus in Kemmerer, Wyoming. Grew up in Burley and Rupert. She graduated from Minico High School in Rupert as Valedictorian in 1964.

After attending Ricks College, she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Burgess, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho LDS Temple on April 9, 1965. To their union, they welcomed six children: Jill, Chuck, Christa, JoEllen, Jay and Zane. She and Gary raised their family in Rupert until 1988 when they relocated to Annis, ID.

Barbara taught piano lessons to many students in the Rupert and Rigby communities, including several of her grandchildren.

She served tirelessly in every organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Barbara and Gary served in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. They served a mission in the Missouri Independence mission. She modeled kindness and hard work in the home and community.

Barbara worked with her father at Rupert Bowl. She continued her employment at Ultimate Direction in Rexburg, Idaho, sharing her sewing and management skills. Her greatest joy came from being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed being outside, camping and working in her yard.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Gary; three daughters: Jill Pixton, of Pocatello, Christa (Darin) Ball, of Shelley, and JoEllen (Craig) Curtis, of Idaho Falls; three sons: Chuck (Julie) Burgess, of Green River, WY, Jay (Heidi) Burgess, of Eighty Four, PA, and Zane (Annie) Burgess, of Menan; five sisters: Nancy (Ronn) Phillips, of San Marcos, TX, Kathy (Rick) Wall, of Rupert, Bonnie (Bruce) Adamson, of Logan, UT, Becky (Fred) Hand, of Del Norte, CO, and Laura (Lem) Leavitt, of Gunlock, UT; two brothers: Alan (Phyl) Barrus, of Eagle, and Andy (Penny) Barrus, of Dallas, TX; as well as 21 grandchildren.

She was preceded by her parents: Matthew Clark Barrus and Barbara Jean Larson Barrus; a brother, Dan Barrus; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Monday February 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Menan Stake Center (698 North 600 East Menan, Idaho). The family will visit with friends and family on Sunday February 25, 2018 at the Menan Stake Center from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and prior to the service on Monday from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m.
