Brian Lee McManus, originally of Okanogan, WA, passed on to the Heavens on December 26, 2011, in his residence at Christopher House in Wenatchee, WA; he was 58 years old. Brian suffered chronic mental illness since his early 20s. Born on September 17, 1953, Brians life was like a shooting star until the illness beset him. Loved by all who knew him, Brian carried a cheerful countenance throughout his early life. Known for his exuberant smile and kindness, he had a playful and loving personality that made him a great friend, brother, son, and husband. He was a natural athlete and his popularity soared at Okanogan High School as he excelled in several sports. In 1970, as a junior, Brian started at point guard on the Okanogan basketball team, leading them to the semi-finals in the State Class A Tournament. On the Okanogan football team, Brian starred at wingback, catching passes and running the football during two consecutive seasons of undefeated play from 1969 to 1970, for legendary coach, Del Talley. Brian also enjoyed exceptional athletic abilities as a golfer and skier. He was recruited to play football by Washington State University in 1970, where he started on the freshmen football team in the fall of 1971. Brians hopeful college experience was cut short by the onset of his illness. He spent the remainder of his life in his beloved Okanogan and Wenatchee Valleys. Brian loved the western culture that he grew up in - he always dreamed of owning a cattle ranch and raising livestock.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol McManus; his father, Hal Jay McManus Sr. of Wenatchee; and his brother, Hal Jay Jr. of San Francisco, CA. His mother, Lois June Humphrey McManus, passed away in Cashmere on February 5, 2012.
