Hazel Jane Wood Goodman Freeman, 75, formerly of Silsbee, Texas, passed away February 18, 2018, due to complications after an extended battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

She was born to Haddie Backermann Wood and Cecil Robert Wood on October 24, 1942, at Central Clinic Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

She was educated at San Antonio area schools, attending Messiah Lutheran School, and Harlandale Junior High and Senior High, before graduating from Edison in 1960. She went to San Antonio College and Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, now called Texas State University, where she obtained a teaching certificate. Life itself was a learning experience. Thanks to her daddy's penchant for nicknames, she was known as Pat, or Patty, through her childhood and early adult years.

She married Bob Goodman on June 28, 1964, and they had five children together.

She was baptized into Christ at the Church of Christ in Corrigan, Texas, on November 11, 1973. Her husband died in 1991, after 27 years of marriage, and in May 1993, she married Paul Freeman.

They ran Mr. Bandman Music Store in Liberty, Lumberton, and Silsbee, Texas, from 1994 to 2013. Life continued to be a learning experience. Of the various occupations throughout Hazel's life, tutoring school children was her favorite.

Hazel is survived by her husband, Darrell Paul Freeman of Batson, Texas; brother, Bobby Joe Wood (wife Beverly Wood) of Fredericksburg, Texas; son, Paul Robert Goodman of Hunt, Texas; daughters, Laura Katherine Goodman Crawford (husband Brian Crawford) of Euless, Texas, Rae Janette Goodman McLemore (husband Varron McLemore) of Nacogdoches, Texas, Sharon Lynne Goodman Dunn (husband Toby Dunn) of Kingwood, Texas, and Elizabeth Ann Goodman Fyffe (husband Jim Fyffe) of Gun Powder, Maryland; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; three step-daughters and five step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Farmer Funeral Home, 415 N. 4th St., Silsbee, TX.

Interment will take place at the Jones Prairie Cemetery in Leggett, TX.
