Elijah married Mary Hawes a daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Spencer Hawes of Caroline County, VA about 1734 in Caroline County.
Elijah and Mary moved to Orange, Culpeper and back to Caroline County, where Elijah died in 1784. Elijah's will was presented by his son Edmund, but since Caroline County probate and deed records are lost, there is no list of the children of Elijah and Mary.
Deed records prove that they had a daughter named Agnis and the will of Elijah's son William proves there were also sons Edmund, Samuel and Jonathan. Another, son, Jacob, is also suggested by remaining records in Caroline County.
Elijah was probably buried in the Daniel family cemetery in the southeast corner of Caroline County.
