Bradford Alden Ames, 70, of Bolton, died April 1, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital with his wife Jean at his side.

He was born April 9, 1936, in Hartford, the son of the late Signe Carlson Ames and Lee Willis Ames. He graduated Bloomfield High School in 1954, and received an undergraduate degree at UConn, and graduate degrees from UConn, University of Hartford and Central CT State College. He taught in the Hartford school systems for 32 years, and was heavily involved in the teachers Federation. He ended his career in 1993 at Bulkeley High School. Brad was a practicing psychotherapist for 30 years, retiring at age 70 in 2006. He was a 32nd degree Mason, having served as Master of his lodge, Friendship 145 of Manchester. He was in line in Lafayette 88, his father's lodge. He was active in many Masonic lodges and in the Shrine. He enjoyed sailing at his home on Bolton Lake, watching UConn basketball, and the Yankees. He was a stamp collector; he belonged to Manchester Phil. Soc. He played basketball and enjoyed skiing in his youth. He also served in the Army Reserves.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Clara Jean Ames, who was his best friend and true soul mate. He also leaves his sister Alethia Mueller of Roswell, Ga.; his son, Bradford A. Ames Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Flatrock, N.C.; his daughters, Cynthia Ann Barkman and her husband, Alan, of Deep River, and Christine Dianne Jungers of Morro Bay, Calif.; six grandchildren, David Ames, John Colter, Adam Colter, Brad Jungers, Elizabeth Ames and Mary Cochran; two great-granddaughters, Annabella Joy Cochran and Alicia Marie Colter; three step-children, Kathleen Caswell of Hartsville, S.C., Nancy Washell of Coalport, Pa., and Brian Caswell of Willimantic; step-grandchildren, Amanda Tiller, Christopher Caswell, Amy Barrett, Samantha Barrett, and Evelizes Caswell; step-great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Emilee; a cousin, Barbara Rettig; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his special son, Marcello Allegra and his wife, Carrie, and their children Christopher and Kathryn. He was predeceased by his grandson, Joshua Ames. Brad is loved and will be dearly missed by his many friends.
