Norman grew up in and around the Big Rapids, Michigan area where he was a member of the 1961 graduating class of Big Rapids High School. Soon after graduation, Norman joined the United States Air Force. He served his nation proud; fully receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. Norman later attended trade school where he learned the art of brick masonry. This began a career that would span a lifetime; mostly self-employed as the owner/operator of Norm Cox Masonry. Norm moved his family to Stroud, Oklahoma in1981, later moving to Bristow. Norman was reunited with and married his loving wife Louise McHugh. An avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, many knew the story of his near trophy elk. Norm spent a lot of time in the rodeo arena and was an all around cowboy who participated in several events. As well, he shared his love of the sport with his children. He was a member of the National Old Timers Rodeo Association; earning several buckles and a saddle in steer wrestling events. The laughter and smiles of several grandchildren and family often filled the home.
Norman is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Louise; three children, Craig Cox, Quindie Hart and husband Don and Chadrick Cox and wife Karmon; one sister, Lois Martin; one brother, Wayne Cox and wife Bonnie; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Howe. A visitation along with a time for the family to greet friends and share memories will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Hutchins-Maples Matherly Funeral Home.
