In his will, dated July 3, 1849, Abel Bacon Jr. of Wayne Co. NY bequeathed his land to his two oldest sons William & Abel Bacon, though its use was reserved to the benefit of his wife Pamela "during her widowhood", i.e., the brothers did not actually get title to the land until after their mother died.

On Jan 25, 1828, Abel M. Bacon of Savannah, Wayne Co., NY sold a quit claim to "land formerly owned by Abel Bacon", i.e. his future share of his father's estate, to John Bacon of the same place, for $120.

On Jan 17, 1843, John & Hannah sold to Nathan Bacon one acre & a half & ten rods" for $80. [Presumably, Pamila had died by this date].

On Feb 14, 1844, John & Hannah traded quitclaims (for $1 each) with Willian & his wife Susan to clarify (somewhat belatedly, given the earlier sale to Nathan) exactly who owned which half of the legacy, as their father's will had not been specific on this point.

On Mar 15, 1844, John & Hannah of Savannah, NY sold, for $500, 25 acres of land located in the Township of Savannah (formally Galen) and county of Wayne … excepting one acre and a half and ten rods … occupied by Nathan Bacon" to David Holdridge "free and clear of all encumbrances excepting one mortgage on the above described premises of [$274.22]".

On the same date, Mar 15, 1844, Ambrose Haldridge [sic] and David Haldridge and Nancy his wife of Galen, Wayne Co., NY sold to John Bacon of Savannah, for $500, 80 acres of land "lying in the Detroit District, known and distinguished as the East half of the North west one fourth of Section No. Twenty Seven (27) in Township Number One South of Range Number One East" (which I take to be a long-winded version of 'Henrietta Township, Jackson Co., MI').

While both of these indentures were executed in Wayne Co., NY on the same date and also certified in the Wayne Co. Clerk's Office on the same date, Apr 9, 1844, the Indenture for the land that John Bacon bought in Michigan was not recorded by the Jackson Co. Register of Deeds until Sep 7, 1844. I infer that it was sometime between those two dates, i.e., between Apr 9 and Sep 7 of 1844, that John, Hannah and their 7 oldest, New York-born, children made the journey from Savannah, Wayne, Co., NY to Henrietta, Jackson Co., MI.

1850 MI Census Jackson Co Henrietta, enumerated Aug 20, 1850, has John Bacon 47, with Hannah 38, Solomon 21, John 19, Permela 15, Philetus 13, Warren 10, Phebe 8,

and Deborah 6, all born in New York, Sophia 3 and William 9/12, born in Michigan; also

in the household: Phebe Rumery 17, born in New York.

A certified copy of a Michigan Dept of Health Certificate of Death reports farmer John Bacon, married, born in New York, died at age 78 [sic] of "paralysis" in Henrietta Township, Jackson County, on March 27, 1880. Death was registered on July 30, 1881.
