Ella started working for Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, in July, 1956, and after retiring began volunteering for Midlands Hospital in Papillion in 1985.
She loved going to dances, traveling and staying up on current events. She treasured spending time with family. She was very excited to have her writings published in the book Leaning Into the Wind at the age of 83; and proud to be interviewed by the New Horizons newspaper as one of Cass County's longest-living citizens.
As much as she loved telling a good joke, the punchline always came first! Ella always enjoyed sharing a funny story with her sons, Jack, Mike and Steve Schlater, as well as her nine grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She was very happy to welcome great-great-grandchildren into the world and family.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, and two husbands, as well as five sisters and one brother. She was the last surviving member of the Thomas Nicholson family.
She was cherished by all that knew her and her joy for living will be carried on in her memory, as her physical presence will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Ella will be on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church, 304 Main Street, Louisville, NE. Memorials are requested to be sent to the Louisville Senior Center or the American Cancer Society.
