Lucy Mae (Shippy) McCarthy passed away February 19, 2018 in Harper, Kansas. She was born September 21, 1930 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas to Robert and Julia (Barnard) Knowles.

On May 26, 1950, Lucy Mae married Howard E. Shippy. He passes away on December 21, 1979. She then married John J. McCarthy on November 18, 1983. John passed away September 7, 1999.

After growing up on her family farm in Sun City, Kansas, Lucy Mae was a long time resident of Medicine Lodge before moving to Harper.

Preceding her in death are her parents and her brother, Wayne Knowles. She is survived by her four children: Max (Yvonne) Shippy, Jay Dee (Martha) Shippy, Marcella (Don) Wittenauer, and Roger (Patricia) Shippy; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; brothers: Glenn (Patsy) Knowles, Keith (Carol) Knowles, and Dale (Carolyn) Knowles; sister, Janet Boggs; other relatives and friends.
