Dec. 5, 1923 - July 24, 2015
Resident of Castro Valley
Dorothy Sprague died peacefully July 24, 2015 at the age of 91.
She Graduated from Hayward High School in 1941 and went to work in San Francisco. She met a young sailor, Jack Sprague, at a local USO event in Hayward. They corresponded while Jack was doing tough duty in Hawaii and married in 1946. They bought a home in Castro Valley in '47, had first son Paul, first Daughter, Kathy, in '51 and last son, Cliff, in '53. She worked for the Castro Valley School District as a cook and ended as a purchasing agent. She retired along with Jack, in 81. They bought an Airstream and travelled the country for the next 15 years until Jack was too ill to travel. When he passed in 2000, she remained very independent, pursuing her passions and interests until arthritis and injuries slowed her considerably. She swam daily at the Hayward plunge, meeting and making a whole new group of friends. She had a stroke at the end of April and spent her last days at Penny's guest home in San Ramon. A special thanks to Penny, Oscar, Jam, Dennis and Gospel for the loving care they provided her in her last days, their patience will never be forgotten.
Services will be Thursday, July 30, at 11:30, at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary, 221228 Redwood Road, Castro Valley, CA. A short reception will be held following the service, with interment at Lone Tree Cemetery on Fairview Avenue in Hayward. Please give where you think it will do the best in our mothers memory.
