Miss Hipperson was a nurse at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital who was strangled to death in her apartment at 3737 Los Feliz Blvd, Los Angeles.
For two years, her murder was unsolved, until her killer,Daryl Kemp, committed a similar attack in nearby Griffith Park. Arrested in 1959 for that attack, police matched his handprint to a partial print found at the scene of Hipperson's murder. Kemp was convicted in these two cases and sent to death row.
He later was paroled and moved to Texas, where he committed more rapes and was imprisoned again. In 2003, a DNA match was made between him and the 1978 murder of a 40-year-old Lafayette,CA mother. Armida Wiltsey went for a jog around the Lafayette Reservoir on Nov. 14, 1978. Deputies found her body that night a short distance from the jogging trail. She had been raped and strangled to death.
Marjorie's body was found by her fiancé, Dr. Walter Deike, an intern at the same hospital. The night before they had attended an engagement shower thrown by several co-workers, and the following week they were to be married in Chicago.
Deike died several years later in a drowning accident in Northern California.
