James Joseph Keele, 20, died suddenly March 28, 2007.

James was born Nov. 30, 1986, at West Park Hospital. He attended Livingston School and graduated from Cody High School in 2005. After graduation he attended the School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D., where he majored in engineering.

He met many of his new college friends with a smile and fun-loving demeanor. Among his favorite classes were trigonometry, chemistry, microbiology and calculus.

James enjoyed text messaging, cell phone conversations and Internet gaming with his family and friends. He also loved collecting, playing and competing in tournaments for the card game "Magic the Gathering" with his mom and friends.

Through the years his gentle spirit kindled a strong relationship with his pets Charlie, Gizmon and Ana. Friends recognized his love of animals and often requested he house sit for their four-legged friends.

James learned the art of fine-cuisine cooking from his father, and he made a terrific chicken fried steak.


James was considerate, kind, sensitive, gentle and helpful.

He is survived by his parents Joseph Keele and Sherie Goppert-Keele, paternal grandparents Joe and Sharon Keele, maternal grandparents Marjorie and Ernest Goppert, uncle Charles Keele, aunts Debbie Hofstedt of Trubuco, Calif., Lori O'Connor of Fort Worth, Texas, Wendy Kuper of Greybull and Holly Niles of Bethesda, Md., and many loving cousins.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. April 5 at the Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. A reception for guests will be at the Methodist Church fellowship hall following interment.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Shoshone First Bank for the James Keele Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund will be used to assist engineering students achieve their academic goal at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
