"James Edward Venice, 61, Michigan City, died Monday, March 15, 1993, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Michigan City.

He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Peru, to Leonard and Maebelle Nelson Venice. His mother survives in Peru. He married Eleanor Criswell on Nov. 9, 1957, in Michigan City, and she survives.

Mr. Venice served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was retired as a supervisor from Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor, Mich. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Michigan City. He was also a member of Skwiat Post No. 451 American Legion, and the VFW No. 2536.

Surviving along with his wife and mother, are one son, Bret Venice, Michigan City; one daughter, Laura Murphy, Grand Rapids, MIch.; two brothers, Leonard Venice, Dune's Acre and Robert Venice, Cottage Grove, Ore.; four sisters: Janet Dixon, Kokomo; Mary Jo Tully, Barbara Murphy, and Judy Hoeppner, all of Peru; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 18, at 11 a.m., at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Michigan City. The Rev. Alfred Dettmer will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m., at the Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City. There will be a rosary service Wednesday at 7 p.m.
