Mr. David Nelson Hawks, 57, of Winston-Salem passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006. He was born Feb. 20, 1949, in Carroll County, Va., to Joe and Della Hall Hawks. Mr. Hawks graduated from Hillsville High School in Hillsville Va., Winston-Salem Business College and Guilford College. He was employed with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for the last 37 years, where he served as a financial analyst. Mr. Hawks was a member of Green Street United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, finance chairperson and was currently serving as church treasurer. Preceding Mr. Hawks in death were his parents. Surviving are his wife, Kaye Stutts Hawks of the home; a daughter, Emily Hawks of the home and Lenoir-Rhyne College; three brothers, Billy Hawks of Sophia, Clinton Hawks of Martinsville, Va., and Everett Hawks of Ararat, Va. A graveside service were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Parklawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Kelly Carpenter officiating. Memorials may be made to the Children's Home Society, P.O. Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415, or Green Street UMC Building Fund, 639 S. Green St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
