Musician. A native of Newport, Arkansas, he was the lead singer of the early rhythm and blues group The Blue Jays. Originally formed in Venice, California in the 1950s, their big break came in 1961 when they were discovered by country singer Werly Fairburn at an amateur show at the Fox Theater. That same year they were signed to the Milestone Record Label and released their first single, the Top 40 hit "Lover's Island." Following the release of their next recordings, "Tears Are Falling" (1961), and "The Right To Love" (1962), The Blue Jays went their separate ways. Peels tried his luck at a solo career and had a hit single with "On A Magic Island". He continued working in the music industry, and doing odd jobs until his death.
