Born April 8, 1945 in Quincy, Jo Ann was the daughter of Ralph J. and Lillian L. Harris Frye. She married John R. Griffin on November 27, 1965 in Payson. He survives.
Jo Ann was active with her community and church families. She was currently a member of the Payson United Methodist Church and was active with United Methodist Women. Jo Ann was active with the Payson community, serving as Village Treasurer, was a member of the Payson New Cemetery Association Board, was a founding member of the Payson Lioness Club, served as a 4-H Leader for several years, was Parade Marshall for the Payson Old Settlers and was a volunteer at Payson Elementary School for many years. Jo Ann was a member of the Hannibal Elks Lodge 1198, the Hannibal Lady Elks and the Hannibal V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Jo Ann was devoted to her family. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother and she cherished the time she shared with her family.
Jo Ann was an accomplished seamstress. Prior to her retirement in 1999, Jo Ann had been employed at Palmer's Quality Fabrics in Quincy and The Famous in Hannibal until she opened Sisters Sew & Suds with her sister, Diann Schieferdecker, at 19th and Jefferson in Quincy.
Survivors include her husband, John; two daughters, Laura Liang (Mark) of Houston, TX and Sarah Rogers (Scott) of Payson; seven grandchildren, Jordan Liang, Jennifer Liang, Jackson Liang, Jamie Liang, Aaron Rogers, Allyson Rogers and Caleb Rogers; a brother, Jay Frye (Linda) of Payson; a sister, Susan Dietrich (Steve) of Ocala, FL; her mother in law, Marian Shrader of Coatsburg; two brothers in law, Terry Schieferdecker of Quincy and Duane Shrader (Amy) of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Diann Schieferdecker; a sister in law, Carolyn Koetters; and a brother in law, John Koetters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson. Burial will be in Payson New Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home in Payson.
Memorials may be made to the Payson New Cemetery Association or the Shriner's Childrens Hospital.
