Edith C. (Oliver) Holmes, 90, of Nashua, died peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018, with her daughter Carol by her side.
Edith was born on May 17, 1927 in Medford, MA, daughter of Robert and Lillian Oliver. She was raised in Medford, MA and lived in Nashua for the past 45 years.

Edith was a skilled seamstress and craftsperson. She made clothes for her daughters when they were young, and made a lovely wedding dress for her daughter. She crafted beautiful needlecraft pictures as well and Christmas stockings for family and friends. The family treasures the numerous baby blankets and afghans she made for them over the years.

In 2013, Edith donated a needlecraft replica of the seal of the city of Nashua to the town. It hangs in the City Hall with a plaque in her honor. The seal was made for her husband, Walter, who served as controller for the city from 1973-1984.
Edith was a proud 70 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild. As a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church, she was active in their Christmas Bazaar, frequently offering an afghan to be auctioned off.
Survivors include her children, Carol and James DeRoche of Maine, Walter and Claudia Holmes of Florida, Noel and Marjorie Kelliher of Connecticut, and Thomas and Debra Holmes of Ohio; grandchildren, Jennifer Daigle, Brian and Emily Daigle, Michael and Carol Holmes, Rebecca Holmes, Christopher and Gina Holmes, Emily Holmes, and Amanda Dorocz; great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Annica, Clark, and Hazel, and beloved nieces and nephews.
She was the widow of Kenneth S. Holmes and Walter B. Holmes. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ruth Holmes, and her sister, Roberta Hitchcock.
The family is grateful to the caring staff at Courville of Nashua for providing comfort to Edith and her family in her later years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 98018, Washington, DC 20090-8018, or a charity of your choice.
