Donna Larsen Dargin was born May 20, 1935 on the farm north of Avoca, Iowa, to Elmer Hansen and Adelia (Della Peters) Hansen. She started country school and moved to Avoca when she was eight years old. She played baton and flags and was majorette for the band for 4 years. She played basketball for four years missing going to state by 2 points. She graduated from Avoca High School in 1953.
Donna married Eddie James Larsen in 1954. Four children were born to this union: Debra, David, Julie and Sharon. Eddie passed away on July 9, 1960 in Shelby, Iowa
Donna moved to Avoca in August of 1960. In 1963 she won the game show "Queen for A Day". In 1973, she married Emmet J. Dargin and started working for the Northside Veterinary Clinic from 1973-1980. In 1980 she went to work at the Avoca Veterinary Clinic when she retired in September 2011 after thirty-one years.
She bowled at the Avoca and Minden Bowling Alley's for forty years. Donna and Emmett played Pinochle in a couples card group for twenty-five years and Donna also played in a Women's Poker Club for twenty years. She loved to travel and visited many countries. She loved to go to Vegas with family and friends and has visited almost every state in the U.S.A. She loved to cook and bake and usually baked something everyday.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and cook who loved to entertain and was the perfect hostess when putting on a party, from decorating the house to the food she served.
Donna passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 attaining the age of eighty-two years, eight months, and thirty days. She was preceded in death her parents; Elmer and Adelia; husbands; Eddie and Emmett; her daughter; Debra; and her brother; Richard.
