BLUE GRASS - Marilyn J. Simmons, 86, of Blue Grass, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018, in The Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Blue Grass Presbyterian Church.
Marilyn was born on December 30, 1931, in Davenport, the daughter of Clifford and Viola (Peters) Stubbs. She was untied in marriage to Dale Simmons on November 7, 1953. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 22, 1997.
Marilyn was a member of Blue Grass Presbyterian Church for over 35 years. She was active in the LOGOS program in the kitchen supporting the youth group at the church. Marilyn was a cake decorator at Southpark Bakery in Rock Island for over 30 years. Every Friday, she could be found at dinner with her best friend Barbara. Above all else Marilyn loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Cliff Simmons, Sonia Hilderbrand, and Brian Simmons, grandchildren Lashell Simmons, Heather Hill, Lindsey Simmons, Rachel Bland, Shawn Simmons, Kerri Simmons, and Katie Simmons; great grandchildren, Mariah Miller, Savannah Miller, Madison Vinger, Ava Vinger, London Vinger, Jayden Dalen, Livia Hook, Gunnar Hill, Gage Hill, Cadence Hill, Mazie Jo Sundwell and Joanne Isabella Bland, brother Clifford Stubbs, and best friend for over 70 years Barbara Oaks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her siblings Virjean Nagel and Bill Stubbs.
