Lewis was one of 10 children born to Elizabeth and George Muttart. He married his 1st spouse Susan Allen Jul 4 1838, acquired the old Muttart family homestead in Cape Travers and raised 12 children there. PEI's Public Archives have Baptismal Records for only five of them - George born May 11 1839, Sara Ann born Feb 8 1841, Liffy born Sep 9 1842, Charlotte Elizabeth born Apr 6 1860 and Alice born Apr 18 1862. On Jul 21 1883 Lewis married twice widowed Annabella Wright Read Inman. The 1901 census found the pair living with the family of Lewis' son Robert in a 15 room home on their 75 acre farm in Cape Travers. The residents were Robert (b:4-27-1856), Mary ("Minnie") (b:8-21-1858), Josephine Davis (b:10-16-1884), Lewis Harrison (b:1-20-1888), father Lewis (b:4-21-1814) and the step-mother Annabella (b:8-11-1821).
