He was born May 10, 1924, in Middlefork Township, IL, the son of Ernest and Agnes (Burkhart) Blackford. He married Mary Ann Dannenberg in 1949 and together they had three sons. He later married Barbara Gerdes.
He is survived by three sons, Douglas Blackford of Indianapolis, IN, Tracy (Debbie) Blackford of Anaheim, CA, and Scott (Kristen) Blackford of Fishers, IN; 5 grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; and one brother.
Dale worked as an insurance agent for Bankers Life and Causality until his retirement. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 -1945. He was a certified civilian pilot and plane owner. Dale enjoyed gardening and working outdoors.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday February 24, 2018 at the Potomac Church of the Nazarene, 206 E. State St. Potomac, IL, with Brian Blackford officiating. Burial will follow in Partlow Cemetery in Armstrong, IL. Military rites will be accorded by the Potomac American Legion Post 428 and the Illinois Patriot Guard.
