He was born on October 20, 1924 on the family farm in Two Rivers, son of the late Carl and Mathilda (Schultz) Retzlaff. Elmer attended Rangeline Grade School and Mishicot High School graduating with the class of 1942. On April 11, 1953 he married Marcella J. Knuth at St. John Lutheran Church in Maribel. She preceded him in death on March 6, 1998. Elmer owned and operated the family farm until 1970 then was employed locally until his retirement from Eggers Industries, Two Rivers.
Elmer is survived by one son: David Retzlaff, and his fiancé Cheryl Olson, Two Rivers; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Ann (Jim) Evers, Freedom, WI, Jane (Mitch) Marichal, Appleton, Carol Brawn, Appleton; four grandchildren: Andrea (Jeff) Gabbard, Joshua Moffatt, and Kate and Mike Marichal; and one sister: Anita Hacker, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella, his parents, and three sisters: Leona, Viola and Lilah.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. William Kilps. Burial will take place at Forrest View Cemetery, Two Rivers.
