Annie and her older sister Nellie (a school teacher) moved from Indiana to California with their parents, Thomas & Caroline Droud Lancaster, just after the turn of the century. Their father, Thomas, had been a practicing physician in Indiana since before Annie was born, and had long desired to, one day, move his family and practice to the west coast.

Almost twelve years after moving to Los Angeles, Annie's sister, Nellie, passed away. One year later, Annie's father, also died.

According to a Los Angeles marriage license from the year 1915 (see attached), Annie Laurie Lancaster (age 35) married Texas-born, Hugh Emmitt Davis. A year later, Annie and Hugh became the proud parents of a baby girl whom they named Virginia Carolyn Davis.

Sadly, after five short years of marriage, Annie's husband died. Hugh was buried near Annie's father, and sister. Then, in 1923, Annie's mother, Caroline, also passed away.

In little over a decade, forty-three-year-old Annie lost her mother, father, sister, and husband...

Life for Annie and her 7-year-old daughter, Virginia, somehow moved forward and, according to Orange County, California marriage records, Annie Laurie (Lancaster) Davis, married Illinois-born, photographer, Melvin Fusch (Fausch) on July 23, 1925 ( * see attached marriage license). Said document shows that Melvin's father, Charles M. Fusch, was a French-born immigrant, who, after coming to America, met and married a Kentucky-born woman named Mary Common.

Annie's daughter, Virginia, eventually grew up and married Don Mark Fletcher, but unfortunately her life was cut short. California death records show that Virginia Carolyn (Davis) Fletcher died in Orange County on November 20, 1941, at the age of 25.

On February 27th 1950, Annie Laurie (Lancaster) Davis passed away at the age of 69.

COMMENTS FROM CONTRIBUTOR:

A: Although one Lancaster genealogist claims that Annie died in 1920, the 1925 marriage license provided herein proves otherwise.

B: Because Annie's death record lists her as Annie Laurie Davis, it is questionable how long she was married to Melvin Fausch.

C: The locations of graves belonging to Annie, daughter Virginia, and 2nd husband Melvin, are unknown.
